The 3 Little Pins
THE FIRST PIN
I am from a small Southern California coastal town. It has PCH, a historic district and the world's best tortilla chips from Las Golondrinas. Each March the town has a festival & week long celebration of the swallow bird's annual return to Capistrano. The fiesta is a town tradition. I was 21 years old and and couldn't resist line dancing to Garth Brooks at the Swallow's Inn.
I two-stepped with the cutest cowboy and afterward he took his hat pin off, and pinned it on my cowboy hat....yep--- that happened. It was school-girl crush dreamy.
THE SECOND PIN
What must be a lifetime later, in the fall of 2015 my sweet Grandpa Kershaw passed away. We had a military funeral in Shelley, Idaho, honoring his service as a World War II fighter pilot.
My grandpa was a hero, and a real badass. Even at 5" tall he was still tougher than the rest. Before we left to drive back to Utah, my mom got some heirlooms from her dad. She chose special treasures that were important to her- and of them was his gold US pin from his Air Force Uniform. She gave it to me. Every time I look at it I think of his twinkle eyes & smile.
THE THIRD PIN
Two years later I was at Disneyland with my family and we started collecting pins. We all wore lanyards and hunted for the best pins to trade. It was hilarious and awesome. Every pin tells a story of the magical week at the happiest place on earth.
When I got home I tucked all my pins in a special place and it was the first time I realized I had a special little collection.
So last year, In the spring of 2017, I had the idea to create our own pin line !
